Arcade machine Varth Operation Thunderstorm assis
Question from Derek: Hello,
I’ve been looking through the internet for help with a problem I have with an arcade machine and I stumbled across your site. I downloaded a couple podcasts and love it. This leads me to my problem though. I own a Varth Operation Thunderstorm machine and have a couple different problems.
Problem 1) The screen on this machine looks like the matrix. I have vertical green lines (as seen on the included picture) that I cannot get to go away. When I saw this machine it was working perfectly but after putting it in my truck and taking it home, it seems that something jarred loose and I cannot for the life of me get a picture back. I’ve tried adjusting both H and V holds and Sizes but with no luck. How can I get my picture back?
Problem 2) Same machine. The coin mech is a MESS. I have included 2 pictures of it to give an idea of what I’m dealing with. I see the coin switch at the bottom of the coin mech but my wires are a giant jumble of mess and I don’t even have enough wire to connect to the switch itself. How an I adress this or is this a harness that can be replaced easily?

As for your questions, your monitor look like it’s having some sync issues. We would start off by checking the wiring going from your board to your monitor. Check to see if the sync wires came loose during transport. If this is not the case then it could mean that something happened to your chassis. Let us know what brand and model your monitor is and we’ll help you troubleshoot it further.
The easiest way to clean up your coin door would be to trace down the coin counter, coin lockout and coin switch wires from the harness and disconnect everything else. If you wanted to go really “bare bones” with your wiring, you could disregard the coin counter and coin lockout wires and just go with the coin switch wires. I believe that your Varth Operation Thunderstorm game is wired JAMMA. Here’s a link to the JAMMA pinouts so you know where the wires are on your harness.
