Arcade monitor question
Question from Brian: Hello Tim and Jonathan,
First off I would like to thank you guys for all you do your podcast, website and DVDs have been an invaluable resource to me since I started my collection.
Next an update from my last questions, my games survived the cold garage just fine and started up great come spring and my joust cabinet has gotten its first base coat and is looking amazing.
Now for my latest difficulties I have a NFL blitz game with a 25″ wells garner U5000 the monitor has a grouping of white lines at the top of the screen and the green color covers the whole screen. I have tried adjusting the knobs on the back to fix the color with no luck, is this something I can fix with a cap kit or is it a more serious problem? It looks like the red and blue colors are still present but its hard to tell with all the green.
I have attached a few pictures that show the problem sorry the quality is not the best, i tried an extra jamma board just to confirm that it is the monitor. I have no experience fixing monitors yet and I was hoping to bring this game to my local pinball and arcade show next month.
I also have another problem I’m not sure if you guys can help with if not would you be able to recommend another resource, I’m trying to fix an older Rock-ola model 494-1 jukebox it had been working fine until recently it no longer retrieves the record and will not accept more than one song selection per power up? I am at a loss as to what maybe wrong it’s the first jukebox I have worked on and I have had no luck locating a manual for it.

As for your monitor question, Wells Gardner U5000 monitors are known to have some issues with the color transistors on the neck board from time to time. You probably need to replace some or all of those transistors starting with the green one. Check out our post on Checking A Monitor Tube for more information on color transistors.
We’re definitely not familiar enough with jukeboxes to troubleshoot your particular issue. You might try contacting John at flippers.com. I believe he does some jukebox repair and might be able to help you out with your problem.
