Arcade Monitor Question

Question from Nick: Hey guys, i could only imagine how many questions you guys get a day, but i couldn’t find any real help or answers in any of the many forums i visited. If you could help me i would greatly appreciate it. I live in Fort Dodge, Iowa. and i bought a used arcade machine to put in my garage for some of my friends to come over and have some beers and have a good time. I knew going into it that the machine wasn’t in the best shape, which didn’t bother me too much as it was going to be a “garage arcade machine” It looks to be a Neo Geo “brain” inside a Mortal Kombat 2 body. My question is about the monitor. i’ve had it about 4 months or so, and just recently when i turn it on i hear a popping sound, and i actually looked in the coin mech and i could see up to the monitor there was blue sparks right up by the end of the monitor where it looks like it plugs in to something. I am very new to this sooo my lengo might not be the best. Anyway there is popping sound and sparks, and when it pops the screen will move get jittery and sometimes go in and out. when i start a game it acts fine and eventually settles down, but sometimes i can hear a pop and spark but only at dark parts of the game, like when u pass a level or something. Does this sound like my monitor is going out, or do u think that its a bad conection somewhere. just wondering if you had any suggestions or have had this happen also.
Thanks if you can help a newbie out.

Response from Tim: It sounds like your flyback is arcing and going out. Could be a short somewhere else but more than likely there. If you are not confident in your skills just yet you can watch our video on discharging a monitor and removal and send it to us for repair
I would not play it anymore though because that arcing could actually cause a fire. You need to get this fixed asap.
