Question from Wayne: Tim and Jonathon,

Hello, my name is Wayne from up in Montana. I just started collecting arcade machines. I own R-type, Strider, Yie Ar Kung Fu (1985), and Avengers (1987). I love your videos and find them very informative. They give me the confidence to work on my own machines. Anyway… R-type and Strider work but I bought Yie Ar Kung Fu and Avengers off Ebay not working. The guy I bought them from knows less than I do about them because he got them in a storage locker sale. I thought I would start with Avengers because it seems to want to work the most. When I turn the machine on I can hear the music play, it will coin up, and I can see bits of images moving on the screen. The screen is very scrambled with jagged lines running vertically. The monitor runs vertical like a Pacman arcade. I can tell from the screen burn that it used to be a Dig Dug monitor. Also when I opened it up I could see that there was a new type power supply and a classic power supply still sitting inside. I checked all your videos and podcasts but cant find anything that really matches my situation. I listened to one where the guy had a star wars arcade and when he turned up the brightness it would go back to normal….so I fiddled with some of the “pots” in the back of the chassis but it didn’t make a difference. I work on my home console video games quite a bit so I’m not really new to soldering and replacing capacitors. However, I was hoping you could give me some guidance before I just started ripping into things. Thank you very much for your time.
