Question from Steven: hello, i am just looking for a few tips to help me get started on repair
i have an area 51 arcade and it was working fine, then it was move and now not so good. The screen at the top is showing lines across the screen. im not to concerned about that for now it can still be played with it like that. I know some wires have to be loose but i dont know where to start, all the wires are spliced and its a mess. I have sent you a video and maybe you can just help me figure out where to start. whats working and whats not. Im a total newbie and dont know anything technically about arcades. just so you know in the video when i play with the board it goes on the game for a sec, thanks for your time

Response from Jonathan: Steven,
Looks like you’re have some issues with the board. From the sound in your video, it seems like your hard drive might be going out. Before getting a new hard drive, we recommend checking the power supply to make sure you are getting the correct voltage to your board. Check out our post on Checking And Replacing A Power Supply for more information.
As for the lines at the top of the screen, it’s probably time to install a cap kit on your monitor chassis. Lines like these are a pretty good indication of a bad cap. Check out our post on Installing A Cap Kit for more information on that process.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repairs.
