Area 51 power supply
Question from Todd: Can you help me identify this power supply from my Area 51 arcade game? Thanks, Todd

Response from Jonathan: Todd,
From your picture, it looks like you have a switching power supply with the cover removed. It looks very similar to the 80-0210-00 from Suzo/Happ. The good news is that the 80-0210-00 is a very commonly used power supply and, as such, is available from many of the distributors that stock Suzo/Happ parts. One of our favorite Suzo/Happ distributors is Twisted Quarter. They carry the 80-0210-00 for about $10 cheaper than Suzo/Happ and there’s no minimum order limit to deal with. Here’s a link to Twisted Quarter’s eBay page for the power supply: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130-WATT-15-AMP-POWER-SUPPLY-/380942531781
The only thing that’s confusing me is that the amperage on the 80-0210-00 power supply seems too low based on the manual. The manual states that the power supply should output +5 VDC at 20 A and +12 VDC at 8 A. The 80-0210-00 outputs +5 VDC at 15 A and +12 VDC at 4 A. If I had to guess, I would say that this cabinet was probably converted to an Area 51 from something else which is why it has the lower amperage power supply in it. With that said, the lower amperage power supply should work for a while but it might not last as long as a power supply that’s outputting the correct amperage.
So, your choices are to order the 80-0210-00 and install it knowing that it’s smaller than what the game needs and might fail again in the near future or step up to an ATX style power supply (such as the 80-0074-00 from Suzo/Happ or this one from Twisted Quarter which both state are for Area 51) that would require some cabinet rewiring but would output the correct voltages for the cabinet. The choice is up to you.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
