Assistance with a fault on my screen
Question from Mikey: Hello there. It may be a slight stretch to be contacting you guys for assistance, but I’m hoping you’re able to help out as I’m a bit lost. I got my hands on a Sony PVM monitor which I’m using for various old gaming set ups, and it’s operating fine aside from a white line stretching across the screen. I’ve attached a photo demonstrating the issue. I’m just wondering if this is something you’ve seen before? I’ve reflowed and re capped a lot of the vertical section but it hasn’t changed anything. Thank you very much and I look forward to your reply! Mikey

Response from Jonathan: Mikey,
Well, it sounds like you’ve already taken the first step I would have suggested. Recapping the vertical section was definitely a good idea; however, there must be other issues since you’ve already tried that. It looks like a single retrace line that’s just out there by itself. Typically you would get several retrace lines on the screen not just one. You might look at the solder side of the entire monitor board and touch up any cold and/or broken solder joints you find. Other than that, you might actually have a tube issue of some sort. You could try using a tube rejuvenator on it but if the tube is actually bad it probably won’t fix the issue. Check out our video on Using A Tube Rejuvenator for more information.
I wish I could give you some better advice but this is definitely a strange problem that we have not seen before. Please feel free to contact us again if you try the step above and continue to have issues. Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
