Atari kiosk

Question from Tristan: Hello, I’m hoping you might be able to help or point me in the right direction. I just bought a house and the former owner was nice enough to leave everything he didn’t want. So much garbage. The cool thing is he left an Atari 5200 kiosk. It’s big like an arcade game and would have been in the store for people to try before they buy. It’s super cool but doesn’t have a screen. I have no idea what this thing is worth but I’m sure it’s more of its working not to mention I really wanna play it. Do you know anything about these? What kind of screen it takes? Where I could get one? Really anything. I can’t find anything about it online at all. Thank you very much for your time. I really appreciate it. Tristan

Response from Jonathan: Tristan,

First off, that is a really neat piece of gaming history. It’s not everyday that we come across an Atari kiosk of any kind let alone one for the 5200 system. We don’t know a whole lot about this kiosk but judging from some of the research we’ve done online it looks like it will work with any tube television as long as it fits the space in the cabinet. Some people have talked about using an LCD TV in it which should work as long as it has a coaxial connection and a tuner built in. The Atari 5200 used a TV antenna switch box similar to the one that the Atari 2600 used which is why the coaxial connection and built in tuner are required. For more information, we highly recommend checking out the Atari Age forums. The guys over there will know a lot more about this kiosk since most of them specialize in Atari items.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
