Cabal by Fabtech 1988 Problems
Question: I recently bought an arcade game from 1988 called Cabal and the marquee light isn’t working. I replaced the bulb, still didn’t work, I replaced the starter, still nothing, so I replaced the ballast, and still nothing. I tried checking all of the connections and they look fine. What could be the problem? Also, my game counter is stuck and wont tick when a credit is added, any tips on how to fix that?

Response from Jonathan: These issues could be caused by some wiring problems. On the marquee light, make sure that the wires that are going to it are putting out the necessary voltage to power the light (usually around 120 VAC here in the United States). The best way to do this is to use a multimeter to measure it. If they are not outputting the correct voltage, trace back the wires to see where they are connected. You can always connect/splice these wires directly into the cord that comes in from the wall plug to get the correct voltage to your marquee light. On the game (I’m assuming coin?) counter, you can bypass it by wiring around it or you can replace it. Sometimes cleaning out a coin counter will help the issue but it depends on the problem. Overall, the fastest solution would be to wire around it by hooking to coin wires directly to your harness or disconnecting the coin counter if it’s currently wired directly to the harness.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your questions and good luck with your repairs.
