coin door lights

Question from Tay: Hi, I was wondering how can I hook up my coin door lights on my arcade cabinet. I see a black and an orange wire. I don’t know where to hook them up to. I am using a regular power supply box with 12 volts, 5 volts, and -5 volts so if you can help greatly appreciate it.

Response from Jonathan: Tay,

In most cases, the black wire hooks up to the ground and the orange wire hooks up to the correct DC voltage line on your power supply. In order to determine the voltage that should go to your coin door lights, you will need to look up the bulbs that are currently installed in your coin door light sockets to see what they require. Coin door bulbs should have a bulb number listed on them in small print that will help you determine their model. You may need to remove the bulbs in order to read this information. We have a table of commonly used coin door light bulbs along with the voltages that they use in our post on Replacing Lights In An Arcade Cabinet. Once you have determined the voltage that your bulbs use and you hook up that line to the correct wires, your coin door lights should come on. Hope that helps.
