CRT TV picture squeezed on left and right sides.
Question from Tara: Hi guys.
Been checking out your videos on Youtube, they are an excellent resource but I have a particular issue I’m not 100% sure on what to do so I thought I would just ask.
I have a widescreen TEAC crt tv (about a year 2000 model) the picture is great, colours work, focus works but I seem to have a horizontal warping issue. The issue that bothers me is the picture squeezes on the left and right sides. This is exasperated when I go into 4:3 mode for my old consoles which makes it look like its budging in the middle but only horizontally. What should I be looking at to fix this issue and is it even fixable? If you need a pic I’ll take a photo but I hope my explanation is clear enough on its own.

Whenever you get pincushion or bulging effect on your screen it’s usually due to some bad capacitors (or caps) somewhere. You probably need to replace some caps on the chassis board for the television. Since they typically don’t make cap kits for televisions, you’ll need to open up your television and read the values of all of the caps. Once you have all the values, you can order them online from mouser.com or digikey.com. Please see our post on Installing A Cap Kit or more information on capacitors. Hope that helps.
