Death of dream
Question from Brett: Hello guys
A while back i purchased a street fighter 2 cabinet. I spent months working on it. I was able to purchase a 19″ new crt monitor for it. The cabinet played xbox 360, sega dreamcast as well as the original arcade board my goal was to have every street fighter game on one cabinet. Well my girlfriend and i got in a fight and i came home to the end of the monitor being broke off. Do you think this can be repaired or are my dreams of a shiny new crt ruined?
Ive tried looking everywhere for a new monitor but everybody has told me “good luck” they havent been made in almost two years.
Sincerely
Brett

Response from Jonathan: Brett,
Wow, that’s rough man. Let’s go through some options, shall we? Since it looks like your chassis is still in tact, you could try to find a different tube that’s compatible with it. Old tubes can be found on Craigslist, at TV repair shops or even at your local junkyard. There’s some great information about how to get the ohms (or resistance) measurements off your tube at http://www.8liners.com/datatech/monitor.html. All you have to do is find another tube that matches the ohms, neck size and socket pinouts of your current tube and you’re in business.
Of course, you might not want to swap the whole tube since your current tube is fairly new. If you are lucky enough to find a tube that is compatible with your chassis, you might try switching just the yokes out. Here’s a video that shows you how to remove a yoke from an arcade monitor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqCaQfAhi50. There’s also some great informaton on ArcadeMonitor.com about swapping yokes. Check this link out for more info: http://www.arcademonitor.com/Arcade-Monitor-Repair/swapping_arcade_monitor_picture_tube.php
Hope that helps, Brett. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
