Degaussing video
Question from Ryan: Hello!! In your degaussing video, you mention being able make a homemade degaussing coil and find the details of the coil on the internet. I haven’t been able to find anything out there that explains how to do it.
Is it just a coil of copper wire (#14??). I figured I better put a resistive device on it like a light bulb or something so I don’t short it out when plugged in along with a switch. Since the number of turns affects the magnetic field, how many turns should I make the coil?
My main reason to make the coil is to save the 30 bucks or so but secondly, I think it would be a fun little project. I am a Mechanical, not an electrical so it will be fun to learn. 🙂
BTW, I have a Ms Pac Man. I just recently installed a new monitor which has some slight degaussing issues. Right now, we would like to move the Ms Pac but if we move it or even rotate it, the colors get wacky. With the new monitor, I had to use the old chassis and I watched your video on the monitor chassis swap out. thank you so much. your video helped a lot!! (I also had a lot of help from the store I bought the monitor from) Couldn’t of had the confidence to do it without your video.
Thank you!!
Ryan

Response from Tim: Yeah, Copper is what they use a lot. I found this article that I think sounds very good and would probably work good. If you try it please let us know and video or take some pics if you want!
