Disassembly of a machine
Question from David: This is a hobby for me, but I have an arcade machine that is working. I am going to replace some of the buttons that are worn and clean it up for my home use. I wanted to know if you think it is possible to disassemble the machine enough to move it in pieces to get it in my home and then re-assemble it? Am I being foolhardy to even consider this option or is it possible?

Response from Jonathan: David,
While it is possible to disassemble and reassemble an arcade machine, it is certainly not very practical. There are many things that can go wrong during this process that can cause the machine to stop working. The age of most of these machines means that any small movement can cause them to stop working. We have heard numerous stories of people who experience issues just moving their games across the room. Overall, we recommend refraining from moving your arcade machines unless you absolutely have to.
Of course, it can certainly be done. It shouldn’t be too bad as long as you feel fairly confident in your arcade repair skills. Newer games will be easier to disassemble than older games due to the number of connections. You can also try removing just the parts you need to remove. For example, you can remove the control panel on most arcade cabinets if it’s too wide to go through a doorway.
Hope that helps, David. Let us know what you decide to do. Thank you for your question and good luck with your future repairs.
