We usually don’t specify a gauge just something the equivalent to a lamp cord. Most of the time we use an indoor extension cord, cut off the ends, strip the wires and solder the alligator clips to those wires. If you’re not quite confident in your skills, you can go to our friend Bob Roberts site and purchase one from him. Here’s the page with the information: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/safeback1.html. You will have to send him an email to order. The ones he makes are pretty nice and relatively cheap. He also has a page that tells you how to make his version. Hope that helps.

Response from Tim: No certain gauge but the heavier the better thus the standard lamp cord works just fine. Yes cut the plug in off and strip the wires and put an aligator clip on the end.
