Donkey Kong – flickering, glitchy pies on pie fac
Question from Shaun: Hi there,
Jonathan helped me previously with a Donkey Kong color issue I was having in a cocktail cabinet. Thanks for your help, but I’m back for more!
I have sold the DK cocktail and now own a DK upright. It works flawlessly except for on one level.
On the pie factory stage, some of the pies on the conveyor belts “flicker,” like they’re alternating between displaying in two different spots at once. Here is a set of pictures of the problem: http://imgur.com/a/nWKZ1
It doesn’t happen with all of the pies, only some of the pies.
I tried removing all of the socketed chips, cleaning the legs, and replacing them, making sure that they are pressed down firmly – no change.
I thought it might be a board issue, so I brought my boards over to an arcade hobbyist’s house who was planning on hooking up a multimeter to certain parts of the board to see what he could see. The thing is, when I used my boards in his cabinet, the pie level was fine! Played it 10 or more times and there were no glitchy pies at all. When I brought my boards back home, and put them back in my DK cab, the pies were glitchy again. This makes me think that the problem is originating from somewhere else in my cabinet?
I’ve tried using electronics cleaner on the male/female contacts of the wires that run between the power supply and the boards – no change.
I’ve tried removing the transformer and power supply assembly from the cabinet, taking it outside and blowing all of the dust out of the power supply using cans of compressed air – no change.
Desperate for something else I could try myself, I tried reseating the fuse – no change.
Have you ever seen this before? Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Shaun

Response from Tim: Boy you sure did the right things in trouble shooting and its a stumper all right, but remember ASAP always start at power…check your voltages there is a lot going on on the pie factory part and maybe a slight voltage drop could cause that.
Keep me informed good job on what you have tried so far
Tim
