Question from Corrine: Hi,
I have a Galaga 3 upright game. It boots and plays with sound but it will not coin up, as in I cannot add credits. I see there should be three wires going to each coin switch. I only have two. The orange wire is cut from each coin switch and also at the plug. I jumpered the orange wire back in the middle of one of the switches and tried that, but no luck. Can you give me any advice? Is there any way to set the game on free play with the dip switches?

Response from Jonathan: In most arcade games, there are only two wires going to each coin switch. This third wire that’s been cut is probably for a coin counting mechanism of some sort. You’re best bet is to get a multimeter and use the continuity test to check the connection of your coin wires (and ground wires) between your harness and your coin switches.
According to this manual for your game, it looks like the coin wires are located at pins 9 and K. With the game off, place one probe on this pin and the other probe where the wire ends on your coin switch. Depending on what kind of multimeter you have, it will either beep or show a reading of 0 (zero) to let you know that the wire is making a connection. Repeat this process for all of the coin switch wires (ground wires included) and hopefully this will help you identify a bad connection.
