Galaga monitor

Question from Joey: Hello I am new to owning arcade games and I am soon to open a arcade in my area. I have recently bought a galaga machine and the game has been playing fine but now the monitor has a red tint to it and vertical lines on the screen. I have tried to adjust the red and nothing happened. I don’t know what else to do please help me.

Response from Jonathan: Joey,

It’s typically a transistor issues anytime you’re having too much or not enough of a color on the screen. You’ll need to determine what brand and model of monitor chassis you have in order to know which transistors are causing your issue. Check out the What’s My Monitor page on Bob Roberts site to help you identify which one you have.

You will need some basic schematic and soldering skills to be able to replace the transistors. While we always try to encourage people to try repairs themselves, you might want to ship your chassis off for repair if you do not feel confident in your skills. Check out the Monitor Repair Services & Information section of our Resources page for some people we recommend for monitor repair services.

The vertical lines are probably indicative of the brightness and/or contrast being set too high on your monitor. Should be an easy fix once you get the monitor working properly. Check out our post on Adjusting An Arcade Monitor for more information.

Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
