golden tee 2004
Question from Paul: Great website, I have a Golden Tee 2004. The monitor has become washed out and looks like the green is overdriven. I watched your YouTube video on adjusting monitors and read your Q&A on the 2005 Golden Tee. I have looked all over the CRT board and cannot seem to spot the RGB pots. Any guesses? In the 2005 Q&A, they appear to be on the board attached to the rear of the monitor. They are not there on the 2004. I did find the focus and brightness on the fly. The 2004 install manual refers to a monitor manual but I can’t find it online. Thanks for any help, Paul

Response from Jonathan: Paul,
Yes, the adjustments for color are usually located on the neck board which is the board the plugs in to the back of the tube. Keep in mind that these adjustments may be on the under side of the neck board as well which would make them hard to find if you are looking directly at the back of the monitor chassis. Of course, every monitor is different and some may have these adjustments on either a break out board, on the main chassis or somewhere else entirely. On digital monitors, the color adjustments are hidden in an on screen menu (like a computer monitor) that is controlled by a break out board. In this case, you might try following any wires coming off of your monitor chassis to see if they lead you to a board such as this.
If you continue to have problems finding the color adjustments, it would probably be helpful to determine the brand/model of monitor chassis that is installed in your game. Look around for some identifying markings that might give us an idea of who made it. You can also try comparing your monitor chassis to the pictures that our friend Bob Roberts has on his What’s My Monitor page. Try to find one that’s at least similar if not the same as yours. Let us know what you find and we might be able to help you locate the color adjustments for your particular monitor.
Now, there are some factors that can cause this issue besides the adjustments. For one, you might try checking the input wiring that runs from the Golden Tee board to the monitor chassis itself. Sometimes an overabundance of a color can be caused by a disconnection in the other colors (red and blue in your case). Start off by tracing the wires that run from the harness to your monitor chassis to see if they are making a good connection. Since Golden Tee 2004 is a JAMMA game, you can use these JAMMA pinouts to find where the video color wires are on your harness. You can use the continuity check on your multimeter to see if the wires have any breaks in them. Check out our post on Checking Fuses With A Multimeter for more information about continuity. If the wire is making a good connection, you might try touching up the solder on the back of the pins on the monitor chassis. These pins like to come loose sometimes especially after years of unplugging and plugging in the connector.
If all the wires are making a good connection on both the harness and the monitor connector ends but the problem continues then you may have an issue with a color drive transistor. It could be that your green drive transistor is acting up on your monitor and needs to be replaced. Check out our post on Checking A Monitor Tube for information about color drive transistors.
With all of that said, trying to adjust the colors should definitely be the first step you try but the other steps should help you in the event that the color adjustments don’t work. Please let us know if you have any additional questions and we’ll try to help you out further. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
