Golden Tee 2K help

Question from Tim: I’m having an issue with a Golden Tee 2K coin-op and I was wondering if you may be able to offer some insight. The machine was working great for a while, until one day I powered it off then switched it back on a couple of seconds later. Ever since then, the game hasn’t worked.

I did some troubleshooting (I’m still pretty inexperienced with this) and found that the switching power supply seemed to be fried. I can’t remember exactly, but either it wasn’t outputting any power or the readings were way off. I purchased a new PSU from Bob Roberts and installed it, wiring everything up exactly as it was. I verified that the PSU is outputting the correct voltages. But when I turn the game on now, it seems to be stuck in some kind of boot loop. The screen makes that CRT monitor startup noise every 4 seconds or so. On the PCB, the orange light is flickering normally, but the green light only flickers once every 4-5 seconds. It does this whether I try to go into the settings menu or the game itself.

Do you have any thoughts on what the issue may be or what I could check?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
Tim

Response from Jonathan: Tim,

It sounds like you might be having either some power supply or board issues with your Golden Tee 2K arcade cabinet. Newer arcade games like Golden Tee are VERY picky when it comes to the DC voltages they receive from the switching power supply. With that said, it’s a good idea to turn your power supply up just a bit more than what is recommended (i.e. around 5.1 VDC on the +5 VDC line) as it might help with your issue. Please see our post on Checking And Replacing A Power Supply for more information on this process.

Now, if you continue to have the board resetting problems after turning up your power supply then you could have an issue with your board. At this point, you might check out our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board. This post gives you some general tips that might help you get your board back up and running. If the board still isn’t working right after trying these tips then you may need to replace your board or get it repaired. Golden Tee 2K boards usually run around $100 or less if you want to go the replacement route. We do have some people we recommend for board repair if you would rather get it fixed. Eldorado Games at eldoradogames.com has a very good reputation and they usually get your board back to you in a reasonable amount of time. You might also try our friend Raymond at arcadecomponents.com. Raymond is very knowledgeable but he can get pretty busy so make sure you check with him before sending your board to him. There is also a list of additional board repair guys under the Board (PCB) Repair & Component Sales heading on our resources page that might be able to help you out as well.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
