Golden tee repair
Question from Brandon: Hi, I found your videos and site and they look very, very helpful but may be beyond my capabilities. I have a Golden Tee 2005 that has horizontal lines running through the screen as well as the contrast/brightness get really bad after it’s been on awhile.
Couple of questions: it kind of sounds like a cap replacement may solve my problems? I had considered just replacing the monitor to a LCD monitor. Have you ever done this? I see other upgrades of hard drives that offer other courses, etc. Do you happen to be familiar with this? Lastly, I see by your phone number that you may be in the DFW area? I live near Flower Mound so maybe I could drop off something for repair?
Basically right now this game is useless, I want to make it where I can use it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Brandon

Response from Jonathan: Brandon,
Thanks for writing in. Let’s take a look at your questions.
> it kind of sounds like a cap replacement may solve my problems?
Yes, it does seem like installing a cap kit will solve these issues but there’s no way to know for sure. We would definitely start with that and see if we were still having problems after the installation.
> I had considered just replacing the monitor to a LCD monitor. Have you ever done this?
Yes we have and Golden Tee is a perfect candidate as it usually has a VGA output on the board (you might check your board to see if this is the case) which means it’s pretty much just plug and play. This also eliminates the need for a CGA to VGA converter board that is required for most older games.
> I see other upgrades of hard drives that offer other courses, etc. Do you happen to be familiar with this?
Unfortunately we are not but Incredible Technologies (the company that makes Golden Tee) is still in business. They would be definitely better at answering this question than we would. Here’s a link to their contact page for additional information: http://www.itsgames.com/contact/new

Yes, our phone number is from the DFW area but we are actually located about 100 miles east of there. We don’t really take repairs anymore just because the website and our day jobs keep us pretty busy. Since you are in the DFW area, you might join the DFW Pinball & Arcade Club on Facebook which is run by our friend Shawn among others. There are several people in there who repair games and I’m sure someone can help you out if you wanted to get your current monitor repaired.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
