having trouble with a repair
Question from Chris: Hello I am an amateur at arcade repair, and can’t get my Centipede machine to work (no picture or sound) and I was hoping you could give me some advice. I keep blowing the same fuse on the monitor board (I’ve read it is common problem with this type of monitor) and I thought I had the problem solved when I ordered the g07 deluxe repair kit from Bob Roberts, but after replacing everything in the kit, I powered it on, and the fuse still keeps blowing out. The guy I got the machine from said he thought the power supply might have been bad, and was wondering what kind of modern power supply would make a good replacement for an Atari ARII power supply, as I noticed in one of your videos that it’s possible to do so, or maybe there is another reason it is not working?

Response from Jonathan: Chris,
While we typically advocate replacing the classic power supply with a newer, switching power supply, it doesn’t sound like that’s the problem with the monitor fuse blowing. Which fuse on your G07 chassis is blowing? There are typically 2 fuses on this chassis and should be labeled F901 and F902. If you’ve installed the g07 deluxe repair kit properly, the F901 fuse should not be blowing. Assuming that the F902 fuse is blowing, you need to check the diodes on your monitor chassis. Check our our post on Checking Diodes On An Arcade Monitor for more information.
As far as replacing the power supply, the Ataril ARII power supply handles not only power but audio as well. While you can wire up a switcher for power to the board, we recommend just getting an Atari ARII repair kit from Bob Roberts and just rebuilding it.
Thank you for your question and good luck with your repairs.
