hello

Question from Brian: Hello. I just purchased my first arcade. I always wanted one but never had the space…until now. I was very fortunate to find a cabinet that I loved playing as a child, a 1989 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. My 2 quick questions are: the original owner had told me the attract mode music has been turned off since he had a few machines running at once and I have no idea how to turn it back on. My second is I’m trying to get a Turtles In Time PCB and the only one I can find for a good price is a 2 player version. I really don’t want to spend the money on a 2 player version so is there anyway to make it a 4 player and if so how? I also have been told that the 1989 TMNT is mono and Turtles In Time is stereo. Does that make a huge difference? Thank you for your time. It’s much appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you.

Response from Jonathan: Brian,

Let’s take your questions one at a time…

>  the original owner had told me the attract mode music has been turned off since he had a few machines running at once, and i have no idea how to turn it back on

On boards of this age, the attract mode music is usually controlled by a dip switch setting. According to the dip switch settings found here, it looks like the attract mode sound is control by dip switch 8 on the second set of dip switches (dip switch bank #2). If you turn on this dip switch it should restore the sound. Check out our post on Adjusting Dip Switch Settings On A Board for more information.

I believe this will require a ROM swap. We had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles board that was 2 player that also came with the 4 player ROMs. I’m not sure exactly which ROMs will need to be swapped but you might contact the guys at HobbyRoms (http://www.hobbyroms.com) and see if they know. If they do, they should also offer to sell them to you.

Nope, this shouldn’t make a difference. More than likely the board has another connector for the other audio channel. You should still get sound by hooking it up to your JAMMA connector just like your current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles board.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your future repairs.
