Jamma Harness

Question from Will: Hi There! I’ve been working on a multicade project for almost 8 months now and most of the materials work! I do have an issue with controls though. I used a JAMMA Harness only for the controls and I use a PC power supply. The JAMMA Harness I bought wasn’t any good due to it’s quality. I looked at others but noticed some are labeled in Chinese. I’m wondering if you a know of a specific main JAMMA harness that’s sturdy and will last a long time with good quality. Please reply if you can. Thanks, Will

Response from Jonathan: Will,

Unfortunately JAMMA harnesses have varying degrees of quality as you’ve found out through your experience. Our advice to you is to spend a little more and get the “better” JAMMA harness from your supplier of choice. Most suppliers will sell several different JAMMA harnesses. The “standard” harness is usually cheaper but also lacks a bit in quality. While most of the time the “standard” harness will work fine, there may be times where the wiring has issues (i.e. disconnects from the harness connector, becomes damaged easily, etc.). The “better” harness usually uses better gauge / longer wiring and comes with connectors already crimped on the wires. Of course, it’s going to be more expensive to go with the “better” harness but if those wiring issues worry you it’s worth spending the extra money. As an example, you can check out the “standard” and “better” JAMMA harness versions from TwistedQuarter so you can get an idea of what we’re talking about.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
