Just an arcade question?

Question from Leon: I have a stand up Rampage arcade machine (Midway) that since I got it has had faint sound covered up by static. When I power it on, the sound board green LED blinks 6 times then goes out which I think indicates that it’s working. I have been trying to figure out what would cause the machine to have a faint sound covered up my static. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I can send more information if needed.

Response from Jonathan: Leon,

First off, highly recommend that you check out our post on Troubleshooting Games With Sound Issues as it has some great tips on how to repair sound issues with arcade games. With that said, it’s a good idea at this point to make sure that the voltage getting to the sound board is correct. Keep in mind that some sound boards require a -5 VDC line in order for the sound to work properly. If the voltage is correct, it could be a problem with the volume pot as well. Check the volume pot to make sure that it is hooked up and working properly. If everything check out with the volume pot then it could be caused by a bad audio amp, DAC or other parts on the sound board. At this point, you might check out our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board as it will help you identify problem areas on the sound board that could be causing this problem. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us and we’ll try to help you out further.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
