Killer Instinct restarting issue
Question: I just got a Killer Instinct cabinet yesterday. Now that I have it home, I plugged it in and started to play it but after a little bit it starts restarting and won’t stop. It loads up long enough for me to play a game. Please help me. I’m kind of freaking out.

Response from Jonathan: First off, don’t freak out. It’s common for arcade games to have some problems after you move them. If you don’t believe me, you might listen to a couple of episodes of our Q&A podcast. We get SEVERAL questions dealing with problems that occur after moving games. Again, this is very common.
As for your question, let’s start off by checking the power supply. Arcade games like Killer Instinct are particularly power hungry. You might try turning the +5 VDC line up to about 5.1 VDC or so just to make sure that the correct voltage is getting to all the parts of the cabinet. Check out our post on Checking And Replacing A Power Supply for more information. If the power supply in the video looks different from the one in your cabinet, let me know and we’ll try to help you out.
Another item that could cause an issue like this is the hard drive. Killer Instinct uses a hard drive and it could be that the hard drive itself is starting to go out. The Killer Instinct Project website has some great information on backing up and replacing the hard drive. They also sell replacement hard drives if, indeed, yours did go bad.
Of course, you could be having some issues with the board as well. At this point, we recommend checking out our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board for some helpful tips that will hopefully help you get your game working again.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
