Knights of the Round PCB issue
Question from Jeff: I have a Knights of the Round PCB. It is mostly playable. However, seemingly at random, it you play it you will get errors.
When this happens, the game locks up but the music keeps going. Some graphical glitches you can play through, but I have never been able to play through the whole game because it will get to a game breaking glitch.
The board is suicide fixed (and that went just fine). I have reseated the chips and the boards. I have tried replacing the 2 gameplay eproms (U22 and U23) and the graphic eprom (U9) obtained from hobbyroms.com. I feel like since I did this the error happens less frequently, but since it was random to start it’s hard to know. I have also made sure that the power supply and voltages are OK.
I still get errors: https://i.imgur.com/yzSr14Z.jpg
The PCB itself is in gorgeous shape. Any thoughts? Thank you so much!

Response from Jonathan: Jeff,
This is a very interesting issue. It definitely looks like a board issue of some sort but we would encourage you to check your power supply and perhaps turn it up just a bit to see if it helps the problem. Other than that, it’s probably caused by some bad or incorrect chips on the board (guessing ROM chips just because of the graphical glitches from your pictures). At this point, you could try some of the steps we discuss in our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board to see if it makes a difference. Other than that, you will probably need some additional equipment and a whole lot of time to get this board issue fixed. It would probably be best at this point to send the board off for repair if you’re not comfortable troubleshooting these types of issues yourself. We have a list of board repair guys at http://www.arcaderepairtips.com/resources/ under the Board (PCB) Repair & Component Sales heading that might be able to help you out if you want to go that route.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
