MAME Arcade Cabinet Not Displaying Video

Question from Matt: To whom it may concern, I have been searching far and wide for help with repairing my MAME Arcade Cabinet. Unfortunately, I am very inept with electronics and as I purchased the cabinet as is from an independent hobbyist. I do know that it worked before we moved it, however, ever since I brought the cabinet home it has been unable to display imagery. I called the gentleman that I purchased the device from and he worked for hours cleaning and soldering, to no avail. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Matt

Response from Jonathan: Matt,

Well, let’s see if we can help you out with your issue. I know you said that you are inept with electronics. The good news is that our blog posts, videos and podcasts are designed for people like you who are not already familiar with arcade repair. With the help of our content and some investigation on your part, you should be able to get this game working. Just from your description, it sounds like you are having some monitor problems. We recommend looking at our blog post on Troubleshooting Games That Are Playing Blind. This post should give you a pretty good idea of some of the steps that will be involved in getting your monitor working again if it is a monitor issue.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing this type of repair yourself, we do have several people we recommend for arcade monitor repair services. Chad at arcadecup.com is a very reputable guy and has a pretty fast turn around time. You could also contact our friend Arthur at highscoresrepair.com. He has answered several questions on our Facebook page in the past and definitely knows what he’s doing. There is a list of additional monitor repair technicians on our resources page under the Monitor Repair Services & Information heading as well. Keep in mind that you will need to remove the monitor chassis to send it off for repair. Check out our posts on Safely Discharging An Arcade Monitor and Removing And Installing A Monitor Chassis for more information on this process.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck getting your MAME arcade cabinet up and running.
