Mario Bros pixel issues
Question from Tyler: I just bought a classic Mario Bros arcade machine. It has slight pixel issues. Can you help?

Response from Jonathan: Tyler,
Based on your pictures, it looks like your Mario Bros is experiencing some sort of board issue. Before suspecting the board itself, you might want to check the power supply to make sure that it is outputting the correct voltage. The manual for Mario Bros has a wiring diagram that will show you where to test the power supply. We also discuss Nintendo power supplies a bit in our post on Working With Nintendo Arcade Games that you might want to check out.
If the board is getting the correct voltage but the problem continues, you could try some of the steps we discuss in our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board to see if it makes a difference. Try pressing down on some of the chips (specifically the ROM chips) to see if it helps the problem. Other than that, you will probably need some additional equipment and a whole lot of time to get this board issue fixed. It would probably be best at this point to send the board off for repair if you’re not comfortable troubleshooting these types of issues yourself. We have a list of board repair guys at http://www.arcaderepairtips.com/resources/ under the Board (PCB) Repair & Component Sales heading that might be able to help you out if you want to go that route.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
