Monitor Colors switched

Question from Tim: Hi, glad I came across your site and found lots of great info. I just got my first arcade, a Golden Tee Complete 2006. The colors on the monitor need a lot of adjusting. My monitor is a Wells Gardner. I checked my serial # on their site (WG 2007678) and it says product id is WGM2792-U0GS40B. I put the game in test mode to bring up the 12 color squares. The yellow is a little off, so is the white, but the biggest problem is the square marked BLUE is actually red, the GREEN square is really blue and the RED square is really green. What do I do? Thanks!

Response from Jonathan: Tim,

First off, the monitor in your game is more commonly known as the D9200. This might help you find more information on it if you are searching online. Wells Gardner has a troubleshooting guide for this monitor on their website that might help you out. Keep in mind that you can also contact Wells Gardner for troubleshooting advice as they will be much better on this topic.

With that said, your issue could be related to a couple of things. It could be that the input wires for your colors coming from the board are connected to the chassis incorrectly. You might double check these wires to make sure that the proper connections are being made. Of course, if you’re monitor is using a VGA plug this is probably not the case but it’s still worth checking out.

Since this is a digital monitor, it could be that someone has adjusted the on-screen settings incorrectly (i.e. perhaps someone has been messing with the Tint setting). You might try resetting the monitor back to factory mode by holding down the Down and Select buttons until the on-screen setting comes up to reset it. Tim has posted this information on our Q&A Database. Check out the PDF file linked in that post for better directions on this process.

If it’s not the input wires or the on-screen settings then you are probably having a problem with your monitor chassis. If you looked at the troubleshooting guide I linked to above, you might notice that IC201 has to do with the colors. You might try replacing this IC to see if it makes a difference. Other than that, we would probably recommend contacting Wells Gardner at this point (as we discussed earlier) as they should be much more knowledgeable on this particular topic.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
