Monitor problems
Question from Kevin: I am trying to bring a X-Men arcade machine back to life. I bought a 19-in-1 card for it and the monitor comes on for a few seconds then shuts down. Unplug it and wait a few try it again same thing turns on for a few then shuts down. There is a orange glow on the back of tube when it’s on then it goes out also. Monitor is a 25k7191. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Response from Jonathan: Kevin,
Sounds like some high voltage problems on your monitor chassis. Just wondering if it did the same thing when you had the X-Men board hooked up in the cabinet (assuming you had one to begin with). If the monitor was fine with the X-Men board, then you might need to modify the display mode dip switch on the 19-in-1 board (see page 2 of the manual, http://www.jammaboards.com/arcade_manuals/19-in-1_Icade_Manual_JAMMA.pdf).
While changing the dip switch is a good starting point, it won’t help if there is really a problem with your monitor chassis. Since you have a Well Gardner K7000 series monitor, we recommend starting out with this article from our friend Bob Roberts: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/dead.html. Even though you monitor is not quite dead, it definitely sounds like you’re having some sort of high voltage issue for which the troubleshooting process is basically the same as if it was dead. You can also check out our post on Troubleshooting Games That Are Playing Blind for more information on dead monitors.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
