Monitor Question

Question from Chris: Hi Guys,

This is Chris from Toronto Canada, and I’ve recently come across your website and videos which are really great and I’ve already learned a lot. I’ve got a questions that you might be able to help me with. I’ve got what was originally a Mortal Kombat 2 cabinet with what I think is a Hanterex Polo Monitor. The problem is the screen gets progressively more squished at the bottom of the screen. So for example, a full screen grid of squares will actually look like squares at the top of the screen, but as you go to the bottom they get more and more flattened out to rectangles.

Do you know what might cause this or even what I am talking about? If not I can get take a picture of it and send it off.

Thanks a lot,
Chris

Response from Jonathan: Chris,

Anytime you get screen stretching like that it’s probably going to be related to a bad cap. Instead of trying to track down which cap is bad, we recommend installing a cap kit on your monitor. We just had another listener who was having the hula effect where his screen had an hourglass shape to it and a cap kit fixed his problem. Your issue sounds similar to his so hopefully this will get your picture back in shape. Please see our post on Installing A Cap Kit for more information.

We have also featured your question on episode 13 of our Q&A podcast. Please listen to it for more of our thoughts on your question. Thank you for your question and good luck with your future repairs.
