Monitor Repair Question
Question from Terry: I bought a Street Fighter II arcade with a Wells-Gardner 25K7181 monitor. The upper left corner of the monitor has a blue cast. It covers about 20% of the screen.
In the screen test mode to white lines in this area are blurred and you can see the red, green and blue lines almost line up to made a single white line, but they are off a little causing the miss color. The prior owner said it was like this the whole 3 years he owned it. (He bought it from a private owner, didn’t have key or know how to open the cab.)
I thought it might be a degaussing issue when I bought it but no luck with the degaussing coil.
Does that sound like a tube issue or a chassis issue to you? If a chassis issue what is you charge to repair it if I send in the chassis.
BTW I own several games and love playing them, but I’ve done minimal work on them. I’ve never discharged a monitor or removed a chassis, but I think I can do it after watching your videos. However, I would probably screw up installing a cap kit, because my soldering skill is poor.

Response from Tim: I was thinking it might be the rings but asked Micheal for a second opinion and this is what he said:
That problem is one of two problems. It may be the purity rings on the back of the tube (the little rings that you can turn…adjust with caution because you can make it worse real quick) may be out of adjustment or the shadow mask in the tube itself has moved and in that case it can’t be fixed, but I would probably lean more to the rings or yoke out of adjustment… Let me know if you need any help. Talk to you soon.
Tim
