Mortal Kombat Arcade

Question from Patrice: Hello, I have a question about my MTC9300 chassis. I got told my flyback is busted, so I searched one and replaced the current one. Now the flyback doesn’t spit out sparks, so I think that is a good sign, but now I have another problem, and I don’t know what it is. I record some videos, maybe you guys can help me?

Before replacing the flyback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5j_7k_y81c

After replacing (current problem): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEPE35tfGaE

Also, I have pics of my monitor board: http://imgur.com/a/WGVpq

Thanks for the help and greetings from Switzerland.

Response from Jonathan: Patrice,

It looks like you’re having an issue on the high voltage line of your chassis. Many times when the flyback goes out it causes the horizontal output transistor to die as well. Make sure you check the HOT to make sure it is functioning properly. Also, make sure you test/replace some of the capacitors around the flyback. These tend to go bad when the flyback starts to short like what we see in your video. In fact, it looks like these caps may be bad just from your pictures (i.e. they are starting to bulge and lose a bit of their wrapping). There are a couple of other things you can try but we would definitely start with those parts before going any further with the repair.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
