Ms. Pac Man monitor curl on side
Question from Mark: Hi. I have a Ms. Pac Man machine. What is the first thing to check for when the monitor picture curls on the sides? Also, someone installed a switching power supply for the PC board. I get my 7 volts and 12 volts at the power supply but not at the connector end. I have continuity at all the wires too. I’m perplexed. Thanks, Mark

Response from Jonathan: Mark,
On the curl on the side of the monitor, this is pretty common on Electrohome G07 monitors and usually indicates that it’s time to install a cap kit. Please see our post on Installing A Cap Kit for more information. We would also suggest that you install the G07 sync fix while you have the chassis out of the cabinet for the cap kit. The information on this fix can be found here: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/g07notes.html. Of course, please double check the monitor chassis you currently have installed in your cabinet by visiting the What’s My Monitor Page by Bob Roberts to make sure that it is indeed a G07. If it’s not, there may be some additional steps needed to get the curl out.
On the power supply issue, it’s common for people to leave the classic power supply in Pac Man cabinets when they install a switching power supply. It could be that you are testing the classic power supply even though it is no longer hooked up to your board. If the switching power supply is installed properly, you should be getting +5 VDC on the 7 VAC line and +12 VDC on the 12 VAC line. Please note the difference between DC and AC voltage and make sure that your meter is set properly to test what you are looking for.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your questions and good luck with your repair.
