Ms. Pac Man multicade upgrade question
Question from Will: Hi I got a quick question for the video of the multicade upgrade kit from jammaboards.com. I’m only 14 years old but I’m kinda getting into understanding this stuff. My mom and I are currently getting an original BUT unrestored Pac Man machine cabinet. We don’t know what’s still in there but I’m just wondering what power supply you were using for the Ms. Pac Man cabinet in the video tutorial. Was it a 16A or was it something else? Please let me know if it’s a different power supply. Thanks-Will

Response from Jonathan: Will,
The power supply we use in the video came with the kit that we bought from JAMMAboards.com. It is a standard ATX power supply like the ones you would find in a PC. I believe the one we received was a 450 watt, 18 amp but you could use a power supply with a lot less amperage (5 amps or possibly even lower) and it should work fine. This power supply only supplies DC voltage to the 60-in-1 board so it doesn’t much of a load on it. Our advice would be to mod a regular computer ATX power supply to automatically power on and use that to get the voltage to your board. Even a used power supply from an old computer should do the trick.
Now, you might have noticed that the JAMMAboards.com store is down. Tim Hensel, the owner of the site, passed away recently and the store has been closed ever since his death. At this point, we do not know if his family plans on reopening the store or not. We would ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time. With that said, there is some good news. Hot Rod Arcade has stepped up and started offering a version of the Ms. Pac/Pac-Man Cabinet to JAMMA PCB Adapter that does the same thing with a few improvements. The adapter is really the hardest part to obtain of the three items that were included in the original kit so it’s great news that they are offering this part. You can send an email to Chris at Hot Rod Arcade if you would like to order one.
There are several arcade parts retailers that sell 60-in-1 boards if you need one. Let me recommend two sellers that we’ve ordered the boards from in the past. Our friend Michael at Cajun Arcade usually sells 60-in-1 boards for a pretty reasonable price and has great customer service. Same goes for our friend Nick at JAMMA Parts. Both of them also sell JAMMA harnesses, power supplies, and the other parts you might need in order to finish your project.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your project.
