Ms.Pac-Man Upright Arcade Machine
Question from Michael: Hey Fellas,
I love the site http://www.arcaderepairtips.com/ I have already learned so much. Anyways I am stuck and in a bind. I was hoping you could give me some direction.
I recently purchased a Ms. Pac Man cabinet which was not working. Once I got it home and plugged it in this is what the display looked like :
I researched online and sure enough some people stated it could be the VRAM addresser. So I pulled the VRAM addresser out cleaned the pins. Put it back in powered the machine on an nothing but a blank screen. This point I figured I’ll just order a brand new 100% guaranteed working board.
New board arrived and I plugged it in and still got a blank screen. So I decided to do the continuity test on the fuses like you showed in your videos. VOILA I found a broken fuse, so I replaced that. Powered on still got the blank screen.
So I figured, I know what I’ll do..i’ll take the VRAM Addresser off of the NEW board and install it in the OLD board and plug everything back in and see what happens. So I did just that and what ended up happening was I got the SAME screen above(old board brand new VRAM addresser) so It’s the same issue.
So then I figure something is not right why is the new board not working?!?… I then take a look at my old board I took a picture of it here:
As an expert like you probably noticed there is a wired plug coming off the board I took a close up:
Now at this point I am realising I am an idiot for not noticing this before, because the new board that I received does not have wires coming off the edge connector like that. This could be why the monitor is not powering on because some of the wires are not “connectedâ€. So I began to inspect the edge connector and this is what I noticed.
As you can see the edge connector is connected to the “New boardâ€.
Now this is where you fellas at arcade repair tips come in…
What should I do? Should I order a new wire harness? Or a Power supply( I have the old school classic power supply for the ms.pac man)? Or attempt to somehow solder those nubs on the edge connector to the appropriate wires wherever they may be!?!
Any info or sense of direction you can give me would be much appreciated
Thanks for your time,
Michael

Response from Jonathan: Michael,
Instead of replacing the whole edge connector, you might try running the correct wires from your power supply to just those pins that are cut off on your harness. The easiest way to do this is to pop out the existing pins and replace them with new pins connected to your new power supply wires. I believe that these Molex split pins from MikesArcade.com should do the trick. Just check out the Ms. Pac Man harness pinouts to see what you need to run to these pins. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
