Multcade question

Question from Tim: Hello. My son was given a table top multicade and loves it. The question I have is when you play two player it doesn’t flip the screen to allow the other side joystick to play…it stays on the same side? It there a way to fix that? Thank you, Tim

Response from Jonathan: Tim,

It really depends on the setup the multicade is using as to whether or not you can adjust it to play on the player 2 side during a 2 player game. If it’s using a multicade board of some sort (such as the 60-in-1 board that is the most popular choice for multicade setups right now), you should be able to modify the cabinet mode of the board by either using a physical dip switch on the board or the test/service menu of the board. For more information about both of these options, please check out our posts on Adjusting Dip Switch Settings On A Board and Adding Credits To An Arcade Game (And Setting Up Free Play). These post should give you a bit more information on changing both of these settings on your board.

So let’s use the 60-in-1 as an example. According to the manual for the 60-in-1 board, the cabinet mode is determined in the test/service menu. This means you will press the test/service button during startup to get to the menu to change these setting. If your cabinet does not have a test/service button currently (they are usually located inside the coin door), then you will need to wire one up. Some board (like the 60-in-1 we are working with in our example) have a way to get to the test/service menu by using a physical dip switch on the board. When we reference the 60-in-1 manual again, we find that moving dip switch 4 to the on position should get us to the test/service menu which saves us the trouble of having to wire up a test/service button. When we power on the game again with dip switch 4 in the on position, we should find the cabinet mode option we have been searching for. By selecting Cocktail Mode on the Cabinet mode setting in the menu, we should enable the screen to flip for the second player. After that, we just have to save the options, power off the machine, move dip switch 4 back to the off position and power the machine back on to complete the process.

Again, the instructions could vary greatly depending on the setup that’s in your multicade cabinet. Some multicades use boards like the 60-in-1 while others use computers which could make the process more complicated. Give your cabinet a look over and see what’s inside of it. Hopefully you will find something you can work with. Of course, feel free to contact us again if you have any issues with the process and we’ll be happy to help you out.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your future repairs.
