Need adivce on my SF2-CE machine.
Question from Brian: Hi, my name is Brian. I own a Street Fighter 2 CE machine and have been having issues with it. I’ve owned it for about 15 years and have always had what seemed like power issues with it. For years it always worked fine but I always had to make sure I plugged it into an outlet with nothing else plugged into it for it to work. Otherwise not everything would turn on. Which is the problem I’m having now. I hadn’t played on it in about 3 years so last night I decided to plug it in and see how it would do. To my surprise I plugged it in and it worked perfectly (I made sure to plug it into an outlet with nothing else on it). I let it run for hours just in demo mode and played a few games on it and it had no problems at all. Worked great. I even unplugged it and plugged it back in a few times just to test it and it came back on perfectly every time. So it started getting late so I had to stop playing, unplugged it, and went to bed. Woke up this morning eager to play a few rounds. I plugged it in and it’s not working right again. Can’t quite figure out what the issue might be. Last night when I plugged it in, everything turned on. The lights for the top sign, the monitor and speakers, the lights for the coin slots, and obviously the game itself came on and ran fine for hours. This morning when I plugged it in (after leaving it unplugged over night) the lights for the top sign come on, the speakers and monitor come on, but the lights for the coin slots DO NOT come on, and the game itself does not boot up. I just get a black screen on the monitor with some white lines. I checked the wires connected to the coin slots and all seem to be connected. I checked the fuse in the back that you screw out next to the power cord and its not blown. It is a very old fuse, the same one that came with the machine when I bought it 15 years ago but is intact and is not blown. The power cord seems to be ok. I’ve tried running it from 3 different outlets and get the same results. Not sure what the problem could be. It worked perfectly last night, now for some reason it won’t. Do you have any help or advice on what the issue might be? Thanks for your time. Brian

Response from Jonathan: Brian,
This issue is probably related more to a problem with the game itself than it is with the fact you had it plugged into a certain electrical outlet or that you had it plugged in by itself. It almost sounds like your switching power supply has either a short in it or is not getting consistent AC power from the cord. We recommend starting your repair by checking the switching power supply in your cabinet. If your switching power supply is not working properly, everything in your cabinet could possibly come on except for the board (which sounds like what’s happening). Check out our post on Checking And Replacing A Power Supply for more information. It should give you a pretty good idea about what’s going on inside your cabinet. Of course, please let us know if you have any specific questions in the future and we’ll try to address them at that time.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
