Neo Geo MV2F Battery Mod Question
Question from Robert: Hi, I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the Coin Cell non-rechargable battery mod for the Neo Geo MVS, but I am running into an issue. I have soldered on the coin cell battery and the time, date, and settings save, but I cannot get the high scores on my games to stick. They’ll save for a short period of time but then disappear after extended shut down which I thought the battery would now save since it doesn’t need a charge. I’m using Ninja Combat and Puzzle De Pon official carts and they do save but not for long. I’ve followed the tutorial for the MV2F on Jamma Nation including removing the 470 resistor. If you can direct me as to what I need to do to get working high score saves it would be greatly appreciated. Regards

Response from Jonathan: Robert,
Unfortunately we are unfamiliar with this battery mod but the directions seem to be pretty straight forward just from the tutorial you mentioned in your original email. Some reasons this might not work is if the battery holder is not making a good connection to the board, the battery and battery holder are not making a good connection to each other or the battery is losing it’s charge. You might check the voltage on your CR2032 battery when your high scores / settings reset to see what it is. If it’s lower than the standard 3v that it should be, it could be that something is draining the battery faster that normal. If the battery is still in range, I would definitely check all of my solder points and make sure everything is making a good connection.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
