Neo Geo MVS-4 CRT Monitor Issue
Question from Matt: Hello!
Firstly, I would like to thank you for maintaining such a useful site. Almost every single problem I’ve had in the first year of owning my MVS-4 has been covered in some manner on your website and allowed me to DIY most things. However, I come to you now seeking personal help because I have encountered an issue not easily found on your site.
I have a Phillips CRT monitor that intermittently crackles (more like a fizzling noise) after being on for a few minutes. It does this almost exclusively on dark screens. The crackling is not loud enough that it can be heard over the volume of the game, but when there is a dark screen and no background noise/music (for instance, entering high score initials in KoF ’99) the crackling is very noticeable. The crackling is also visible, showing itself as very fine, yellow, pixelated noise. The guy I bought this from apparently did a complete cap replacement so I don’t THINK that’s the problem. It’s worth noting that the machine has been moved around lately, but just from one room to a neighboring room on the same floor.
Thank you so much for your help, Matt

Response from Jonathan: Matt,
First off, thank you for the kind words. We’re glad that you find the information on our site helpful. Make sure you stay tuned for even more posts, videos and podcasts in the future.
As for your question, this is an interesting issue that we have not seen before. From your description, it seems like you may have an issue with your flyback. You might check the solder joints on the flyback to make sure they are making a good connection. It’s also a good idea to check the anode (the part underneath the suction cup that attaches to the tube) to verify that it is connected properly. You might even remove the anode and reattach it to see if it makes a difference. If you need additional help, you might send us some pictures of your monitor screen and chassis along with the brand/model and we’ll try to help you out further.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
