Neo Geo with top 1″” of the image skewed

Question from John: Hello,

I have a Neo Geo with a Kortek KTX26 monitor that is in awesome shape. Originally, the image
only filled 2/3 of the screen and was skewed. After capping the chassis board, the image had full
deflection and great color. However, the top 1″ of the screen is still skewed and is not stable. The
skew is affected by adjusting the H-Hold. Can you give me any suggestions? I was wondering if
the H-Hold Pot could be flakey.

Response from Jonathan: John,

The Horizontal Hold pot could definitely be the problem. You might try to touch up the solder on this pot to see if it makes a difference. You could also try replacing the pot but if you are seeing some change when you adjust it then the pot is probably good. You could also try adjusting the Convergence Rings on the neck of your monitor tube. Make sure you mark across them with some liquid paper or a paint pen so you know where you started from. If both those don’t solve your problem then you might have a bad cap somewhere in the horizontal section of your chassis. It might be good to do a visual inspection around this area to see if you can find any problem.
