Question from Meredith: Hello! I just purchased a decent 88′ Ninja Gaiden and I would LOVE your advice! I bought it for my shop so making money is the goal. I had to adjust the coin mech and switched over the good looking coin switch to one side. Quarters fall in, slide down without a hitch BUT, maybe 50% or less of the time, the game will recognize a coin at all. There is a counter and that activates every time. Sometimes if I manually push down the switch a few times (maybe 5-6) then it will recognize the trip after that until there is a pause. Same with quarters. I may get 5 to go in a row then 10 will fall right down into the collector with no recognition of the game. All the while, the counter is ticking away. Wires seem in tact, I’ve traced them all the way to the main board. I don’t know if getting all new mechs and switches would help because it almost seems like a game glitch?? What would you suggest? I have looked all over the internet and forums and can’t find this weird thing. Please help!

Sincerely,
Meredith

Response from Jonathan: Meredith,

It sounds like you may have a bit of a short between your coin switches and your wiring to the board. Check to make sure that the wires that run from the coin switches to the board are in good condition and not frayed, exposed, or shorted to another location. Also, make sure that the coin counters are wired through your board and not directly to your coin switches. According to the pinouts for Ninja Gaiden in the manual, the coin counters have a dedicated position on the JAMMA harness for the board. If the coin counters are wired directly to the coin switches, it could cause problems with the signal to the board. If this is the case with your wiring, you will need to rewire the coin counters to use the wires from the board instead of the coin switches. Of course, you could always disconnect the coin counters to see if that helps the issue as well.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
