New to games. Need help

Question from Mike: I am looking for a reputable repair man that may be local to try to keep repair costs down. We got a great deal on a couple of 8-liners gaming machines but we have some issues:

1 – We plugged both in before moving them and at LEAST both screens worked and fired right up. Once moved them and got them home, one screen wouldn’t fire up the other would when we plugged them in.
2 – The one that wouldn’t come on DOES show signs of life when I unplug it, but no picture while powered like before. No lights or sounds either, nor are the play buttons lit up. I opened it up and looked for something obvious, but to no avail. I’m stumped and frustrated. I hope it’s not the screen but something simple.
3 – On the one that the monitor DOES work, I have no sound and it just runs in a “demo” mode. We want to play!!! How do we bypass the “insert money feature” and just play for free and fun?

I may have other questions but could use some advice OR the name and number of a good repairman just to get us up and going.

Thanks in advance!!!
Mike

It’s common for games to have issues after a move. The good news is that there’s a pretty good chance it’s a connection issue of some sort if the game was working before you moved it. Double check all of your AC wiring from the wall plug and through the cabinet to see if there’s any suspect looking areas. You may also need to touch up the solder on the monitor chassis that’s not working as cold, cracked, or broken solder joints can cause issues like this as well.

This makes it sound more like a power supply issue. If it’s was just a monitor issue, you would usually get other signs of life such as sound, lights, etc. Definitely want to check your power supply and make sure that it’s working properly. There is also a chance that your main fuse blew so make sure that it is good as well. We have posts and videos on our website and YouTube page that cover these topics if you need more information.

You will need to make a connection between the board and the coin up mechanism. We discuss this a bit in our post on Adding Credits To An Arcade Game (And Setting Up Free Play. We really don’t make it out to your area very often but we do have some people who are located in the DFW area that we recommend for repair. Our friend Greg at Legacy Entertainment is a great guy and has over 30 years experience in repairing games. He should be able to help you out if you would like to get someone out to look at them.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your questions and good luck with your repair.
