Nintendo VS question
Question from Brian: I have a Nintendo VS unit with Super Mario Bros and Dr. Mario and I rebuilt the monitors because the machines were out of service for years and had typical issues. When I reinstalled them, they both seem to be missing a color. I tried the monitors in other VS units I have and they seem to work fine. I am not sure where to start when looking for this issue. I have done some cable checks and they seem to be fine. Before I rebuilt them they had full color, just one was folded and the other rolling. Please help me, you could make my children’s holidays joyful!! Thanks soo much!!

Response from Jonathan: Brian,
Typically monitor color issues like this are going to be related to the color drive transistors on the neck board. Check out our post on Checking A Monitor Tube for more information. For some reason, we’ve found that the solder on the neck board of these Sanyo 20ez monitors is pretty weak. Seems like we’ve had several where color issues like this surfaced after removing the monitor chassis from the cabinet. We recommend touching up all of the solder on the neck board before replacing any parts just to make sure that there are no weak/cracked solder joints causing this issue. You might also touch up the solder on the pins where the connector from the harness/board plugs into the chassis. This is another location where cracked/cold solder joints can cause issues.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
