Response from Jonathan: Frustrated,
First off, I like that fact you signed it frustrated. Makes me feel like a “Dear Abby” columnist. =)
Secondly, there are known issues with Nintendo cabinets and audio hum. Apparently it has to do with the fact that they mounted the audio amps really close to the monitor deflection coils (which are very high voltage). While you might not be able to get rid of it completely, there are some ways to reduce it. The first thing will be to install an audio board cap kit on your monitor if you haven’t already. Hopefully this will get rid of most of the hum. If you still have some hum after the cap kit, you might try replacing the fusible resistor as this can also lead to problems with your audio.
Other than those two things, you could also try replacing the Nintendo amp with a different amp altogether. We don’t usually recommend this as we like to keep cabinets as original as possible but it is an option you should be aware of.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
