Question from Marcus: Hi guys. First of all, I love your YouTube channel. It has helped me a lot over the past year. I am a self taught mechanic who works at a video game store restoring retro and modern devices. I recently began collecting arcade cabinets. I am in desperate need of your help and expertise.
I recently purchased a neo geo 4 slot in really bad shape. I knew if I didn’t get it, it would have been destroyed. After about a week of messing around with it, I got it running well. Most of the problems were minor; however, the screen was only half visible and mostly blue. It was kind of fading from visible to dark across left to right. So, I purchased a cap kit thinking this had to be the problem.
Well, long story short, now I am “playing blind.” I have no picture whatsoever. I hope I can send in my entire neck board chassis and have you guys take a look at it for me. I don’t have many mentors in my area. It seems like its a dying craft. The cap replacement went well I had thought but one of the traces seemed to disintegrated in my eyes and I cannot for the life of me see where it goes. I’m kind of a purist. I’d rather fix what it came with vs buying a new neck board. I hope you can help. I’d ship it to you Monday if you guys do that sort of thing. Let me know. Call or email anytime. I’m up late always.
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Marcus

Response from Jonathan: Marcus,
Sorry to hear about your issue. You might try making sure that the polarity all of the caps are positioned correctly on the board (i.e. stripe is going in the right direction). Also, double check the cap values for each position using the cap map that came with your cap kit. If the cap map doesn’t state the values for the positions on your monitor chassis, you might look at the Junior’s Revenge website which has some cap maps that might provide you with these details.
Unfortunately we are not currently taking any monitor repairs but we do have several people we recommend. Chad at arcadecup.com is a very reputable guy and has a pretty fast turn around time. You could also contact our friend Arthur at highscoresrepair.com. He has answered several questions on our Facebook page in the past and definitely knows what he’s doing. There is a list of additional monitor repair technicians on our resources page under the Monitor Repair Services & Information heading as well.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
