Operation thunderbolt standing arcade machine
Question: Hi, I have the arcade game Operation Thunderbolt single play. It is in an original Williams arcade box which I am led to believe is quite rare in New Zealand. The game turns on & is playable but the graphics have boed like lines running vertically through the targets, soldiers, cats, jeeps, etc. I have been told the game board needs replacing but trying to find one is not so easy. From what I have described, is this issue with video graphics fixable without having to source a replacement game board? Your professional advice would be much appreciated.

Response from Jonathan: From your description, it’s really hard to know for sure if you’re having a board or a monitor problem. If the boed lines only run through certain graphics in the game that would usually indicates a board issue. If these lines run all over the picture, then you could have a monitor problem. It sounds more like the first option since you mentioned the specific graphics in the game. Of course, we can give you a better diagnosis if you sent us a picture of the screen so feel free to send one in if you would like additional analysis.
Assuming it is a board issue, there are some sources we recommend for repair. Eldorado Games at eldoradogames.com has a very good reputation and they usually get your board back to you in a reasonable amount of time. You might also try our friend Raymond at arcadecomponents.com. Raymond is very knowledgeable but he can get pretty busy so make sure you check with him before sending your board to him. There is also a list of additional board repair guys at http://www.arcaderepairtips.com/resources/ under the Board (PCB) Repair & Component Sales heading that might be able to help you out as well.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
