Play Choice 10 mono or stereo?
Question from Bill: First, I love your video series. As a novice, its really been a big help.
I recently picked up my first machine, a dual screen Play Choice 10. It looks and works great. The only minor issue I have is that sound only comes out of one speaker, the right side speaker when facing the front.
The right speaker is connected to the lower monitor (where the gameplay happens) and the left speaker is connected to the upper monitor (where no gameplay happens, its just the game selection and hint screen). I swapped the speaker connections and confirmed that the speaker is functional. So I figure there are a few possibilities but as a novice, I don’t know how to test for them.
1-Everything is working as it should. The sound system is a product of Punch Out, most likely what the PC10 started it’s life as. I can get sound out of the other speaker by splicing the speakers connections together do get dual mono.
2-Even though no gameplay takes place on the upper monitor, an identical mono sound signal is being sent to it and should be coming out of the left side speaker. Possibly a bad sound amp on the upper monitor?
I’ve asked folks on NEACF and KLOV and no solid answers so far. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thank you!

Interesting question. Based on your description of the issue, I’m leaning towards possibility number 2. You might try swapping the sound amps on the monitors to see if you can get sound out of the other speaker. If you do, then you probably have a bad sound amp and need to buy a new one or install a repair kit on it.
There is another remote possibility. Nintendo released PC10 conversion kit boards at one point that were made to go into cabinets with mono sound. It could be that you have one of these boards but I don’t believe that these were made for dual monitor cabinets. If this were the case, however, that might explain why you only have mono sound. Just thought I would throw that out there just in case.
