Point blank 2 arcade monitor distortion issue
Question from Brian: I purchased this arcade game 2 days ago and go to play it for a few minutes before the screen got a wavy distortion and became blurry i also noticed there was a buzzing or hum coming from the back of the monitor which can be heard in the video. In the video you can see that the level of distortion changes a great deal in a matter of seconds. When the issue started the machine had just been moved and was working when i opened the coin door and the distortion started, it has not been without distortion since, i am thinking this is just coincidence. The arcade game is a point blank 2 kit installed in a midway mfg. universal cabinet 4013 and it has a 25″ monitor.
If you have any suggestions i would greatly appreciate it. this is my first arcade game and i am not off to a good start. i can also be reached at 610-509-8972.
thanks
Brian

Response from Jonathan: Brian,
I definitely see the distortion in your video. It also looks like you have a Wells Gardner U2000 monitor chassis. You might want to double check my assessment by going to the What’s My Monitor page on Bob Roberts site and comparing your chassis to the pictures.
If you do have a U2000, here is a link to a nice troubleshooting guide that tells you what parts you need to replace to fix your issue: http://www.wellsgardner.com/pdf/Repair/U2000_25_27_inch.pdf. Check out the distorted video symptom fix since that seems to be your issue. There have also been several service bulletins on this monitor since it’s release. You might think about implementing some of these fixes to help the life span of your monitor. You can check them out at this link: http://home.comcast.net/~mtpacifico/_kenskorner/files/WG%20U2000%20-%20U5000%20Service%20Kits.pdf.
You mentioned in your email that this is your first arcade game so you might not be familiar with working on a monitor chassis. Your first step will be to remove the monitor chassis from your game. Check out our post on Removing And Installing A Monitor Chassis for more information. Once you have it out of the game, you can try to repair it yourself if you feel comfortable or you can ship it to one of the guys listed under the Monitor Repair Services & Information heading on our resources page. They will be more than happy to fix your monitor chassis for a repair fee.
Hope that helps, Brian. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
Response from Tim: sounds like some of the filter caps are starting to fail…do a cap kit on it if you can will go from there
Tim
